Just before midnight on Friday 18 November, a terrible accident occurred near the Kings Park Hotel in Rutherglen. John Laird was driving a Mercedes C220 which unfortunately collided with a Ford Mondeo. It happened around 11:50pm on Mill Street on Kings Park Avenue.

Once this tragic accident occurred, John Laird headed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead due to the fatal injuries. Another passenger in the car, Michael McManamon, who was 73, eventually died at the time of the collision.
Reportedly, Rutherglen Police are appealing for witnesses and have arrested a 34-year-old man, who was not injured in the incident.

Tribute to the death of John Laird
Mr. Laird’s family released a statement regarding John Laird’s unfortunate death, saying “We are shocked and appalled at the loss of our beloved John, a husband, father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by each of us. We receive kind messages from his friends and families who knew him well and appreciated all he did for them.”
The family of an elderly person who died in the following car accident said they were “grieved” by the loss.
