Who is Sean McKeej?
Sean McCaag was the former President of the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association). He was a native of Scottstown and was the first Monaghan to hold the position. He led the federation from 2000 to 2003 and held the presidency of the federation gloriously.
McCague played a key role in securing funding for the redevelopment of Croke Park. However, the most impactful moment in his career was the removal of Rule 21. He first joined the Scotstown Committee in 1996 as club secretary.
He quickly rose through the ranks and eventually became chairman in 2000. McCagh also captained his team to the Monaghan Championship in 1974. He also led Farney County to glory in Ulster in 1979.

Sean McKay passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2023. He was 77 years old at the time of his death. The sad news of his passing was confirmed by Monaghan GAA in an emotional post on social media.
Monaghan GAA wrote: “It is with a heavy heart today that we celebrate the sad passing of former Ouchtran Monaghan and Scotstown player Sean McCaughey.”
In his celebrated GAA career, Sean served as the 33rd President of our Association from 2000-2003 where his legacy lives on and guided the Monaghan Senior Football team to historic success for Ulster in the 1970s and 1980s.
Former principle of Scoil Mhuire at Monaghan, Sean has always been at the helm of our association both locally and nationally and he will be sadly missed by all.
